Alpin Haus Ribbon Cutting

In November 1964, Bud Heck and John Daly founded a ski shop named Alpin Haus in Amsterdam, with just one full-time employee and several part time helpers.  Just three years later, the company added recreational vehicles, pools and snowmobiles to its inventory, and added 7000 square feet of additional space to their showroom by the end of that decade.  In the 1980s they moved to their Route 30 store, also in Amsterdam, adding boats in 1987.  The 1990s saw Andy and Greg Heck’s purchasing of shares of the business, and the opening of a Saratoga location.  In 2003 their super center on Route 5S opened, and in 2010 their Clifton Park showroom was added, selling skis and snowshoes, pools, and spas.  The company has continued to expand since then, adding other locations, products, and services.  Alpin Haus is also active in the Marine Trades Association and area chambers of commerce.  This week, they celebrated a big expansion and renovation of their Route 30 store, attended by dignitaries including Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, Assemblymen John Smullen and Angelo Santabarbara, town and local officials, and members of the business community.  It was exciting to see all the history associated with a company that has provided fun and recreation to generations of locals and visitors from far and wide!

Frozen in time, an image of Bud Heck (left) and Joh Daly checking out a 1960s ski hangs behind the two men, still good friends and associates 59 years later, as Alpin Haus celebrated a major expansion and renovation of its Route 30 showroom in Amsterdam.  Their Clifton Park showroom, located in the mall near Boscovs, offers skis, snowshoes, pools and spas, and their outdoor RV display is a familiar sight near Exit 16.
