Alliance for Positive Health Welcomes New Executive Director Kim Atkins

The Alliance for Positive Health is pleased to announce that Kim Atkins has been appointed as the new Executive Director. He brings 30 years of public health experience to the Alliance with most of his career in New York City.

Kim started at the Community Family Planning Council (CFPC) where he built a comprehensive HIV care program for women and worked with HIV Special Needs managed care. Additionally, Kim oversaw the transformation of CFPC clinics into Federally Qualified Health Centers. Kim served as the Deputy ED/CFO at the AIDS Service Center NYC. During his time at the Center, he expanded the organization’s care management program and helped the agency become a key partner within NYS Health Homes. “We are delighted to name Kim our Executive Director effective September 27, 2021” said Board President, Kelley Winslow.

In 2013, Kim became the CEO at Planned Parenthood Mohawk Hudson based in Schenectady, expanding services to include primary care services for women, medical and support care for transgender patients, and integrated behavioral health before leading the agency into a merger of five affiliates named Planned Parenthood of Greater NY. “I am honored to have been selected to this role as the Alliance for Positive Health continues to expand its services to help build on the organization’s 37-year history of creating access in underserved communities,” Atkins said. “It is a privilege to be able to serve not only people with or at-risk for HIV, who have been at the core of our mission, but to be able to extend these services to other serious medical and social conditions. I am looking forward to leading the Alliance for Positive Health into new and exciting areas of growth and change. “

Kim has a master’s degree in Anthropology from Cornell and has lived in both Thailand and Peru.
