Alliance for Positive Health to Host Albany Hepatitis C Regional Town Hall Meeting

The Alliance for Positive Health (formerly the AIDS Council of Northeastern New York) is hosting a panel discussion tomorrow about Hepatitis C. Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is the leading cause of serious liver disease in the United States. Untreated HCV can lead to cirrhosis, liver cancer or liver transplantation. Currently over 200,000 New Yorkers have chronic HCV infection, with an estimated 50% unaware of their status. HCV kills more New Yorkers than HIV/AIDS. Many HCV+ New Yorkers are not engaged in medical care, or receiving lifesaving treatment.

The agenda includes a presentation on the state of Hepatitis C in New York with basic information & updates; a response by a local & statewide panel; a Q & A & open discussion to develop a list of needs & solutions to combat Hepatitis C. Learn more about the HCV epidemic in New York.

The event is sponsored by: Albany and Schenectady Damien Centers, Alliance for Positive Health, Catholic Charities of Albany, and VOCAL-NY. The event is open to the community, and will be held tomorrow 12 noon – 3 p.m. at the Alliance for Positive Health, 927 Broadway, Albany. For more information contact Carlos Rosario at 646.387.5138.
