September 18, 2015Albany Public Library Dedicates “Trolley Tree”
Albany Public Library and the Delaware Avenue neighborhood formally dedicate the Delaware Trolley Tree Sculpture on Tuesday, September 22, at 4:30 p.m. at the Delaware Branch.
The Delaware Trolley Tree Sculpture was created by local artist Matt Hart as a memorial to Virginia Bowers, a former city historian and lifelong Albany booster. The sculpture is crafted from trolley tracks that used to run along Delaware Avenue. The sculpture is a celebration of Albany’s history and the vibrant Delaware neighborhood. Surrounding the sculpture are brick pavers, which include personal messages selected by supporters of the library and the neighborhood.
The public is invited to the dedication ceremony, during which people and organizations instrumental in creating the sculpture, including the Delaware Avenue Merchants Group, Delaware Area Neighborhood Association, artist, city of Albany, and library. The ceremony will take place outside on the back patio of the Delaware Branch library at 331 Delaware Ave., and is expected to last about 30 minutes.
