The Albany Pine Bush Celebrates New York State Path Through History Weekend

The Albany Pine Bush Preserve Commission will be celebrating New York State Path Through History Weekend with Tales from the Taverns on June 18, 2016 and Legends and Lore on June 19, 2016. Path Through History Weekend is organized by I Love New York and highlights the history of the state. “Both of these programs will highlight the fascinating history of the Albany Pine Bush” said Education Program Manager Sara Poggi-Decker. “If you’re curious about some of the lesser known aspects of Pine Bush history then these programs will be a fun and exciting learning opportunity for you,” she continued.

The Albany Pine Bush has a very rich history and these programs will transport participants back in time to discover some of the fascinating details. The Tales from the Taverns program will be held on Saturday June 18th from 4:00pm-6:00pm at C.H. Evans Brewing Company at The Albany Pump Station. This Program will highlight stories about historic taverns that once hosted travelers passing through the Pine Bush and the types of beer that might have been found in the taverns. Speakers include Craig Gravina of the Albany Ale Project and John Gearing a noted historian on Schenectady County.

“C.H. Evans Brewing Co. has deep roots in local history, as we began production in Hudson in 1786. We enjoy our current location at the Albany Pump Station where we are able to combine our passion for local history, great food and craft beer in a building which is listed on the National Historic Registry. We are pleased to help keep the history of the area alive and well,” said Neil Evans, owner of C.H. Evans Brewing Co.

The Albany Pump Station, completed in 1895 to pump water from the Hudson River under Clinton Avenue and to Bleecker Reservoir, will provide an excellent backdrop while participants sip C.H. Evans Brewing Company beer. Savory hors d’ oeuvres, one complimentary Evan’s Ale pint or soda, private room with cash bar, and free Albany Pine Bush pint glass will be provided with the purchase of a ticket. This program is recommended for adults. Tickets for this program can be purchased at www.AlbanyPineBush.org/events and are $20 per person.

The Legends and Lore program will take place on Sunday June 19th from 1:00pm – 2:30pm at the at the Albany Pine Bush Discovery Center, located at 195 New Karner Road, Albany and will include a 0.9 mile walk over rolling sand dunes.
