Albany Jewish Community Center Ribbon Cutting

The Capital Region Chamber was proud to cut the ribbon for the Albany Jewish Community Center as they dedicated a very unique addition to their summer camp – Yurts! The official opening for a new “Yurt Village”, a campus enhancement for The Sidney Albert Albany Jewish Community Center (AJCC) day camp. This year, the children attending the JCC’s Camp Shalom and Teen Camp will experience firsthand the fun of spending time in these new spaces. The yurts will enhance the JCC’s summer camp offering by providing a space for children to stay overnight and experience camping under the stars, give the teen campers a dedicated space to make their own, and serve as a shelter if it should rain. The yurts are equipped with tables and chairs and the children can do crafts and assorted other activities throughout the Summer.

Supporting the ribbon cutting were Assemblywoman Patricia Fahy, who was instrumental in getting support for the project, plus Albany Common Council President Corey L. Ellis, both candidates for the 109th Assembly District: Alicia Purdy and Gabriella Romero, along with staff, well-wishers and friends, and of course, the children! David Posner, CEO of the JCC’s of the Capital Region, spoke on behalf of the Center, joined by Campus Director Janet Andrade who led much of the improvement efforts. It was a joyful celebration of an exciting addition to the program at Albany JCC.
