Albany Dance Team Selected Tonight at Jupiter Hall

Dance Team to be Called the “Albany Empresses”

The Albany Empire of the Arena Football League hosted their Dance Team Finals event tonight at Jupiter Hall inside of Lucky Strike at Crossgates Mall.  In addition to selecting the team members, the Empire also announced the name of the Dance Team as, “The Albany Empresses.”

The 22 dancers that made it through auditions, boot camp and business style interviews auditioned in one final event to make the Albany Empresses.  The dancers performed in front of season ticket members, sponsors, VIP guests and a panel of celebrity judges.  The judges panel was comprised of: Tatiana LaPlante of Q103 Albany; Steven Cantara of PYX 106; Meredith McNeil and Chad O’Hara of B95.5; Jake Allen of Fly 92.3; Lexi Nahl of News 10; and Emily DeFeciani of CBS 6.

Dancing two at a time, the dancers performed the routine they had been practicing throughout audition process with Head Choreographer, Edwina McCormick.  After the final wave of judging, 17 women were named to the Albany Empresses.  These women are all from the Capital Region, spanning from towns such as; Clifton Park, Ballston Spa, Latham, Niskayuna, etc.

“From open auditions, to boot camp and now the Dance Team Finals, it’s all been so exciting!” said McCormick.  “I can’t wait to get to work with this group of extremely personable, talented and beautiful women.”

Playing a key role in the Empire organization, the Empresses are not only the forefront of the entertainment experience at home games at the Times Union Center, but an extension of the Albany Empire in the community.  They will represent the organization through appearances at team, community and partner events throughout the entire Empire season as well as the off season.

“The Albany Empresses will serve as ambassadors to the team and be prominent in the community,” said George Manias, Vice President of Business Operations.  “These women were chosen to be much more than what will be seen at home games, and we are confident that we selected a great group of women to best represent the team and organization, both on and off the field.”

Vent Fitness in Guilderland will be the “Official Practice Facility of the Albany Empresses.”  The team will practice twice a week, at Vent, in preparation for their first game day performance on April 14th at the Times Union Center.
