May 7, 2021Albany County Executive, Senator Breslin, Assemblymembers Fahy & McDonald, Supervisor Mahan and Colonie Center Recognize Area Nurses on National Nurses Day
Colonie Center was pleased to host Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy, Senator Neil Breslin, Assemblywoman Patricia Fahy, Assemblymember John T. McDonald III, Colonie Town Supervisor, the Chief Nursing Officers at Albany Medical Center and St. Peter’s Health Partners, as well as area nurses to recognize the hard work that these front line workers have been doing during the pandemic, and always, on National Nurses Day.
The County Executive delivered a proclamation in recognition of the nurses. “In Albany County hospitals alone, there are over 6,000 nurses who work tirelessly to help the sick and the injured, and this doesn’t account for the others serving at physicians’ offices, schools, nursing homes and all across our community. They have volunteered as part of our Medical Reserve Corps,” said Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy.
“We owe each nurse a debt of gratitude every year and every day, but they have gone above and beyond these last 13 months helping us respond to COVID. They put their health and their lives on the line in the face of a highly infectious disease, which makes this year’s National Nurses Day that much more important.
Our area nurses have been putting their lives on the line to ensure the health and safety of everyone,” said Marissa McCarren, Marketing and Business Development Manager at Colonie Center. “It will never be enough to simply say ‘thank you,’ but we wanted to recognize the caregivers who have meant so much to so many people through our nomination event. We want to highlight the hard work that they do every day––not just during a pandemic.”
“This pandemic has taught us many things, the least of which is how important our healthcare workers are,” said Senator Neil Breslin. “Our nurses not only ensure proper care, but they provide emotional support and a smiling face to patients every day. They are the backbone of our healthcare system. Recognizing their importance on just one day doesn’t seem like enough.”
“National Nurses Day gives us the opportunity to recognize the important role that nurses serve as essential workers and health care providers,” said Assemblymember John T. McDonald III. “The COVID-19 pandemic has shown us how vital the hard work and dedication of our health care workers is to the well-being of society as a whole. I want to thank the nurses who work day in and out to help others and for their many contributions.”
“Our nurses played a more important role than ever in all of our lives over the last year amidst a public health crisis on a scale not seen before in our lifetime,” said Assemblymember Patricia Fahy. “I thank nurses in the Capital Region at all of our hospitals and beyond for the incredible work they’ve done to keep our communities, neighbors, and families safe during what’s been a tumultuous year. Thank you for putting yourselves in on the frontlines day in and day out without hesitation – we would not have weathered this crisis without you.”
“It is an honor to recognize our nurses today. We are grateful for your dedication to your patients and your commitment each and every day to the nursing profession. Thank you for your hard work, especially during these very challenging times,” said Supervisor Paula Mahan.
“Each and every day, our nurses provide quality and compassionate care to members of our community,” said Lisa Massarweh, DNP, RN, PHN, Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer at Albany Med. “We celebrate their unwavering dedication in a special way this National Nurses Day. But the mission of our nurses has never been as clear as it has been during this extraordinary time in our history. Nursing is the most trusted of all professions, and our professionals heal the minds, bodies and hearts of our patients. It is a high calling we are honored to answer. Thank you to the nurses who selflessly and heroically make brighter tomorrows for our patients and their families.”
“While the arrival of vaccines in the battle against COVID has provided a sense of hope that soon, this pandemic will be behind us, the 2,500 nurses of St. Peter’s Health
Partners have remained dedicated to caring for our community,” said Christopher Jordan, MHA, RN, NEA-BC, CPHQ, Chief Nursing Officer, Acute Care, Vice President Patient Care Services, St. Peter’s Health Partners. “From our hospitals and urgent care facilities, to our nursing homes and rehabilitation centers, to our primary care offices and surgical suites – our nurses have demonstrated a dedication and commitment to our patients, our residents, their families, and the community.
They inspire me every day and I am honored to be here, recognizing them on National Nurses Day.” Colonie Center is so proud to be a part of the Capital Region and is honored to highlight the hardworking and dedicated nurses who help keep our community safe and healthy.
Now more than ever, nurses worldwide have been working tirelessly to help those in need. This National Nurses Day, we have decided to encourage our community to nominate a nurse in their life to be entered for a chance to win various shopping sprees at participating retailers, H&M, J.Crew Factory, iSmile Studios, and Sephora. Five winners will be randomly selected on Tuesday, June 1, 2021.
