Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy Names MVP Health Care Senior Leader to its Board of Directors

MVP Health Care Senior Leader of Pharmacy Strategy and Management James Hopsicker has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP). Hopsicker has been a member of AMCP for more than 20 years and remains active within the organization as part of the AMCP Educational Affairs Committee. He is also immediate past president of the AMCP Northeast Affiliate.

Throughout his career, Hopsicker has lobbied for the practice of managed care pharmacy and has been actively involved in the discussion and practice of shifting from volume to value in pharmacy practice.

“I fully support and believe that appropriate use of pharmaceutical products is the best value within the current health care system. I believe the academy is best positioned to bring key stakeholders together to define, execute, and transition policy and practice to improve patient outcomes while controlling/reducing health care costs,” he said.

Hopsicker carries this vision with him at MVP as he aims to improve patient care and advance the profession of pharmacy practice. In his current role, he works with MVP’s pharmacy team to ensure the appropriate processing of medically necessary prescription drug claims.

His dedication to furthering education and awareness of prescription drug costs and utilization is also evidenced through his work as a faculty member at the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in the Pharmacy Practices Department and as a student preceptor.

A committed community volunteer, Hopsicker is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Northeastern New York Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association and Hixny (the non-profit health information exchange serving Eastern New York).

AMCP directors serve for a term of two years. Hopsicker and the other newly elected board members will be sworn in at the AMCP annual meeting, March 25-28 in San Diego, Calif.
