A New England Nanny Celebrates 30 Years in the Capital Region

A New England Nanny is celebrating 30 years in business and serving local families.

“A big part of our longevity is owed to keeping the same goals in mind today that we started with 30 years ago,” said Guy Maddalone, founder and president of A New England Nanny. “That includes creating ecstatic clients through integrity, and caring about our clients, employees, and caregivers.”

Maddalone opened the agency in 1991 to help people who juggled caring for their own families while working outside the home achieve work-life balance. The agency focused on child care, housekeeping, and senior companion care.

In 1993, the agency began partnering with area Fortune 500 companies to offer on-call and backup child care and senior care services for their employees.

“Work-life balance has become so important for many families,” said Melissa Schoonmaker, agency director for more than 16 years, “Especially when most households have two parents working and the need for child care and other household services have been more in demand.”

As families’ needs evolved over the years, the agency added hotel and event child care, along with pet-sitting services.

A New England Nanny has been particularly helpful to local families during the pandemic, expanding their service offerings to include contactless delivery of groceries, prescriptions, and more. Last fall, they began providing in-home educators for families with children not attending school in person.

“During the pandemic, we figured out ways to continue to service our clients while keeping them safe, as well as our staff,” said Schoonmaker. “We had virtual interviews with candidates, virtual babysitting opportunities, and provided consistent care in the home while maintaining social distancing when possible.”
