October 14, 2020A Lesson with a View at Proctors
Students in the Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School Entertainment Tech program may have one of the most ornate classrooms in the country – Proctors.
Sitting in plush, velour seats usually reserved for Broadway show patrons and concert attendees, juniors and seniors in the two-year program spent part of class this week sketching the Corinthian column-flanked famous stage as part of the most recent lesson in the program – set design and stage awareness.
“It’s really cool. Rather than talking about theatre, I get to be in a theatre learning,” said senior Noel Lyman of Mohonasen.
“I love it. It’s a lot of hands-on learning, rather than sitting at a desk writing all day,” added classmate Chloe Hollner-Turner of Cohoes.
Starting this year, juniors and seniors in the Capital Region Entertainment Technology Program are learning full time Proctors Theatre this year as part of the partnership agreement announced in 2019 between BOCES, Proctors and Fulton-Montgomery Community College (FMCC).
Students in the program learn about the many jobs and the skills needed to work in the entertainment industry, including set design/carpentry, lighting/stage electrics, sound design/recording, costuming, stage management, film/media, etc. Students can earn up to 16 college credits at FMCC through the program.
