May 22, 2019A Flaming Hot Future Thanks to Capital Region BOCES
Aspiring chef Lucas Gilbert heats up his future in the culinary at Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School in Albany where he made Swedish Meatballs recently.
Gilbert, a senior from Bethlehem, is enrolled in BOCES’ Culinary Tech Prep program where he earns high school and college credits.
Gilbert plans to attend SUNY Schenectady in the fall to build on the credits he already earned through BOCES program and earn a culinary degree.
“Cooking is something I have been around my entire life. My dad was a chef and owned Café Madison in Albany. I like the freedom, the experimenting with different spices, all the different things you can do in making a dish,” said Gilbert.
While earning high school and college credits, students in the Capital Region BOCES Culinary Tech Prep program are taught skills to prepare them to enter the culinary world at many different levels, with some pursuing careers as head chefs or master bakers, others as nutritionists.
