Tomorrow, Thursday April 23rd, is National Picnic Day, a celebration of light meals under the open sky. (Pretty much what we celebrate every day!)
Early picnics saw everyone bringing something small to share. The French phrase ‘pique-nique’—meant “pick an unimportant or small thing”, and it might be the predecessor of the word ‘picnic.’ The modern fashion of picnicking started after the 1789 French Revolution, when the revolutionaries opened the royal parks to the lower classes. Some of the earliest accounts of picnicking come from the tales of Robin Hood, when he and his merry men would feast under the trees on beer, cheese, and bread.
This weekend we’re encouraging you to grab a blanket, bring the kids and enjoy an old-fashioned picnic lunch on the lawn. Since it’s sure to be a busy weekend, especially with Saturday’s outdoor Market, we’re encouraging you to pre-order one of our picnic lunches online to make it a breeze for you to pick up and enjoy. We’re also offering take and heat pulled pork sliders so you can continue the picnic theme at home! We’re encouraging as many people as possible to order their picnic lunch and pulled pork dinners ahead of time on our website or by calling the store, in order to make things run smoothly and avoid long waits on Saturday. So, we’re offering you an incentive to order ahead: every lunch or dinner order placed before Friday at 3:00 will enter you into our raffle to win two bike picnics for a future date of your choosing (a $50 value!). The winner will be chosen on Sunday.
Here are the details:
~ pre-order your lunch on our website. The options are:
a kid’s lunch (peanut butter and jelly sandwich, bag of potato chips, a sea salt milk chocolate chip cookie and chocolate milk) for $7.50 or
an adult’s lunch (either a hummus wrap or turkey sandwich, with potato chips, a sea salt milk chocolate chip cookie and a Boylan soda or Pellegrino of your choice) for $12.75.
Take and heat dinner: make your own pulled pork sliders (pulled pork, coleslaw, extra BBQ sauce and King’s Hawaiian rolls). Feeds four for $30
~ each lunch or take home dinner that is pre-ordered will get you a raffle entry to win 2 VFGS Bike Picnics on a future date of your choice (a $50 value). So if you purchase lunch for a family of four, you are entered four times. ONLY pre-ordered picnic lunches and dinners qualify for the raffle. ORDER ONLINE HERE. If you prefer to order by phone, give us a call at 518-579-0195. We are taking pre-orders until Friday at 3:00. Orders placed in person over the weekend will not qualify for the raffle. When you go to the website, you’ll see that there are separate orders for Saturday and Sunday. Please make sure you choose the correct day. All orders will be ready for pickup by 10am.
