Presented by Marilyn Sassi as part of the A Night on the Town in Schenectady: 1850-1950 exhibit series
Join Marilyn Sassi, the celebrated local historical fashion expert, as she explores fashion from the 1600s – 1900s. During the early years of local settlement, there were major discrepancies in people’s clothing choices. The wealthiest families imported stylish ready-made clothing, or purchased expensive fabrics of lavish materials and trim. In contrast, the majority of Americans bought inferior, imported textiles or depended on their own spinning and weaving for clothes. Using illustrations, Sassi will guide participants through centuries of men’s and women’s fashion, discussing style choices of different classes and time frames, with an emphasis on the Mohawk and Hudson Valleys.
