November 2, 20222022-2023 Winter Hours at Saratoga National Historical Park
Saratoga National Historical Park will continue providing access to the park and its history this winter. The Visitor Center at the battlefield will be open 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Daily through November. From December 1 through February 28, the Visitor Center will be open 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. It will return to a Daily schedule on March 1, 2023. The Visitor Center will be closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas, and New Year’s Day.
The Tour Road will be open on weekends only from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm through November 5 and from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm after the time change on November 6 through November 30. It will be closed for the winter from December 1, 2022 through March 31, 2023, reopening for the new year on April 1, 2023.
Park grounds and the Wilkinson Trail will be open sunrise to sunset throughout the winter for hiking, walking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. You can explore the battlefield several ways during the winter months. While the Tour Road is closed to driving from December 1 to March 31, several miles of roadway (between the visitor center parking area and stop 8) are plowed for emergency access and walking and biking are allowed as weather permits. There are also two groomed cross-country ski trails that encompass portions of the Wilkinson Trail, Horse Trail, and the Tour Road.
The schedule for the park’s northern units will be as follows. The Schuyler House grounds will be open sunrise to sunset each day. Victory Woods and Saratoga Monument remain open sunrise to sunset but may not be plowed after snowfall. Finally, the Surrender Site is open from sunrise to sunset until November 30.
Saratoga National Historical Park preserves, protects, and interprets the sites associated with the battles, siege, and surrender of the British forces at Saratoga. The park encompasses five sites including the Saratoga Battlefield, General Philip Schuyler’s House, Victory Woods, the Saratoga Monument, and Sword Surrender site totaling 3,579 acres. It was here in September and October 1777, during the American War for Independence, American troops battled and defeated the British invasion force. A British Army surrendered, for the first time in history, on October 17, 1777. This crucial victory helped secure essential foreign recognition and support and boosted the morale of the American forces making it a pivotal moment in the American Revolution.
