100% of Sponsor-A-Scholar’s Seniors Are Heading to College

Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar announced that 100% of its 31 graduating high school seniors have been accepted to college this year.

Students will attend a range of institutions, including: Barry University; Georgetown University; Hartwick College; Herkimer County Community College; Hudson Valley Community College; Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; Sage College of Albany; Schenectady County Community College; Siena College; Skidmore College; St. Lawrence University; SUNY Geneseo; SUNY Oneonta; SUNY Oswego; SUNY Plattsburgh; SUNY Polytechnic; Union College; University at Albany; University at Buffalo; University of Rhode Island; and, Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Robin Christenson, executive director, highlighted the importance of their acheivement: “Many of our Scholars are the first in their families to attend college. This is only the beginning of what we know will be many great accomplishments. We will be with our students every step of the way until they complete college.”

Sponsor-A-Scholar was founded in 1997 to address poor high school graduation rates in area urban schools. Over time, Sponsor-A-Scholar focused its efforts on providing comprehensive college readiness and completion resources for selected local students. Since 2000, more than 246 students have earned college diplomas, and Sponsor-A-Scholar actively supports more than 110 students who are currently pursuing college degrees, as well as 94 high school Scholars.
