May 9, 2019100% of Sponsor-A-Scholar’s Seniors Are Heading to College
Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar announced that 100% of its 30 graduating high school seniors have been accepted to college this year.
Students will attend a range of institutions, including: University at Albany; The College of Saint Rose; Hobart and William Smith Colleges; Florida Institute of Technology; SUNY Cobleskill; Siena College; Buffalo State College; SUNY Cobleskill; SUNY Oneonta; Hudson Valley Community College; Union College and Hartwick College.
Laura Marx, executive director, highlighted the importance of their achievement: “We are very proud of the hard work and accomplishments of this class of graduating seniors. They have challenged themselves and have proven that they have what it takes to be successful in college. We look forward to supporting them along their path and cannot wait to hear all about their successes as they pursue their college degree and life’s goals.”
Sponsor-A-Scholar was founded in 1997 to address low high school graduation rates in area urban schools. Over time, Sponsor-A-Scholar focused its efforts on providing comprehensive college readiness and completion resources for selected local students. Since 1997, more than 252 students have earned college diplomas, and Sponsor-A-Scholar actively supports more than 115 students who are currently pursuing college degrees, as well as 88 high school Scholars.
