Red Cross Announces 2016 Real Heroes Award Recipients

The Northeastern New York Chapter of the American Red Cross will host its annual Real Heroes Breakfast on Friday, March 4 at Wolferts Roost Country Club in Albany. At the breakfast, the Red Cross will present seven awards to ordinary citizens whose extraordinary acts of service and bravery have made them Real Heroes.

The Red Cross is pleased to announce its 2016 Real Heroes award recipients:

  • Blood Donor Hero – Philip Kopach of Waterford
  • Emergency Relief Hero – Avery Moses of Albany (age 7)
  • Good Samaritan – Brandon Smith of Warrensburg
  • Life Saving Heroes – Officer Joseph Valiquette and Deputy Chief Michael Woods of the Colonie Police Department
  • Life-Saving Heroes – Scott Briggs, Samantha Cook, Mark Freiberger, Tim Lasher, Raymond Lipani, William Perry, Kevin Robert, Rick Spoth and Richard Thompson of Clifton Park Halfmoon EMS
  • Military Hero – Paul Mosseau of Ballston Lake

“We are thrilled to have such an inspiring slate of heroes to honor in 2016,” said Gary Striar, chief executive officer for the American Red Cross of Northeastern New York. “Each of our award recipients has demonstrated life-saving courage in one way or another, and we can’t wait to celebrate their impact in our community at the Real Heroes Breakfast.”

The 2016 Real Heroes Breakfast will be emceed by Jaime Roberts, Morning Show Host on 98.3 TRY, and Diane Donato, WGY News Anchor. The morning will include networking, breakfast and the presentation of the 2016 Real Heroes awards, as each hero’s inspirational story is shared with all in attendance.

Tickets to the 2016 Real Heroes Breakfast are $30 each, and sponsorship opportunities are also available. All proceeds from the event will support the life-saving mission of the American Red Cross.
