Green Tech High Charter School Holding “Donuts with Dad” Ceremony September 22

Green Tech High Charter School (GTH), a nonprofit organization devoted to providing young males the tools to successfully obtain a higher education, is holding “Donuts with Dad” on Tuesday, September 22.  The ceremony will recognize all fathers, uncles, grandfathers and male role models of Green Tech scholar’s to acknowledge the influence and important role they play in lives of these young men.

The ceremony will begin at 8 a.m. with breakfast provided.  Chief Brendan J. Cox of the Albany Police Department will be speaking and presenting certificates of acknowledgement to the fathers and male role models.  The men of Macedonia Baptist Church will also be present to lend support as good role models of active males in the community.  Upon conclusion all father’s and male role models will be encouraged to spend the day with the scholars.

“The relationship between a father or male role model and the young men at Green Tech plays a very important role in their development socially as well as academically,” said Dr. Paul Miller, CEO/Principal of Green Tech High Charter High School.  “Boys model themselves after their fathers, so the more involved and supportive a father or male role model is, the greater chance of success our scholar’s will have, and our students have been very successful both in and out of the class room. That is something we would like to acknowledge as we work together to educate our students and prepare them for college and a good life beyond.”

This past summer the Green Tech High Class of 2015 recently graduated nearly 90% of its class, with 100% college acceptance and a record breaking year for scholarships and grants awarded.  A recent study conducted by Green Tech comparing other district urban school systems in the Capital District with a significant African American population, has shown Green Tech students achieving higher rates of graduation, post graduate intentions to attend college and gain acceptance, English and Math Proficiency and Mastery, as well as Regents Exam Mastery.
