September 10, 2015Recipients of SEFCU’s Labor Day 5k Announced
Before SEFCU’s 27th Annual Labor Day 5k was held on Monday, the results of SEFCU’s public vote to determine the organizations to receive the proceeds from the race were announced. With nearly 2,000 votes cast, $20,000 was distributed with $15,000 going to Veterans Miracle Center, $3,000 going to STRIDE Adaptive Sports – Wounded Warrior Programs, and $2,000 going to Operation Adopt a Soldier.
Each of the organizations that were selected for the vote provides veterans and their families’ physical, mental, and/or emotional support. Below is a description of the three non-profits that received funding as part of the public vote.
$15,000 Recipient – Veterans Miracle Center (VMC)
VMC is a place for veterans and active-duty military personnel, as well as their immediate families to receive daily life necessities for free. The organization’s mission is to offer military men and women real solutions that will enhance their lives. It’s their mission to provide them with hope, and let them know that their nation is forever grateful.
$3,000 Recipient – STRIDE Adaptive Sports – Wounded Warrior Programs
Serving the military veteran population since 2006, STRIDE’s Wounded Warrior programs provide integrated adaptive sport and recreation activities to men and women of the armed forces injured in combat.
$2,000 Recipient – Operation Adopt a Soldier
Operation Adopt a Soldier was founded in February 2003 and they work to make sure every soldier receives care packages and letters to remind them that those at home appreciate their sacrifice. Tens of thousands of care packages are sent annually.
