Dawson Apartments Ribbon Cutting Celebrates Community, Service, and Legacy

The grand opening of The Dawson Apartments brought community leaders, residents, family members, and supporters together in Halfmoon to celebrate both a new active adult community and the life of Robert W. “Bob” Dawson. Developed by Tansky Construction & Development, the community honors the Korean War veteran, Purple Heart recipient, volunteer firefighter, and lifelong public servant whose dedication to service inspired its name.

During the ceremony, local and state leaders praised developer Bruce Tansky for his decades of investment in the Capital Region. Speakers highlighted his commitment to creating quality housing, supporting local infrastructure, and helping build strong communities throughout Saratoga County and beyond.

Bruce Tansky thanked the many partners, employees, contractors, public officials, and community members who helped bring the project to life. He also expressed his pride in dedicating the community to Bob Dawson’s memory and welcomed members of the Dawson family who attended the celebration.

One of the most moving moments of the event came when Lt. Col. Gary Dawson, Bob Dawson’s son, shared stories of his father’s remarkable life of service. He reflected on his father’s military service during the Korean War, decades of volunteer firefighting, and countless hours spent serving his community. While recognizing those accomplishments, he emphasized that Bob Dawson never sought recognition and instead believed in quietly helping others.

Gary Dawson closed with a message that reflected his father’s values: the importance of being a good neighbor and taking care of those around us. It was a fitting tribute to the man whose name now welcomes residents to a community built on connection, service, and belonging.
