Emack & Bolio’s Brings Sweet Treats and Community Spirit to Latham

Originally founded in Boston in 1975, Emack & Bolio’s is known for its premium ice cream, creative flavors, and family-friendly atmosphere. Owner Orah LeHockey purchased the Albany location in 2023 and has continued to grow the brand in the Capital Region. The new Latham shop, located at 601 Troy-Schenectady Road, marks the company’s ninth New York location and offers another destination for families and friends to gather over handcrafted ice cream and frozen treats.

Community leaders, elected officials, Capital Region Chamber representatives, and supporters recently gathered to celebrate the grand opening of the new location with a Capital Region Chamber ribbon cutting. Shawn Daley, Senior Director, Membership Development of the Capital Region Chamber, congratulated the team on their expansion, noting the excitement of seeing the beloved brand continue to grow throughout the Capital Region.

Several elected officials welcomed the business to Colonie and recognized the importance of small businesses to the local economy. Colonie Town Supervisor Peter Crummey highlighted the company’s unique history and praised its continued growth, noting that the Latham location is a welcome addition to the Town of Colonie.

Albany County Legislator Susan Quine-Laurilliard, whose district includes nearby neighborhoods along Route 155, welcomed the business to Latham and expressed enthusiasm about residents enjoying the new shop throughout the summer.

Representing Senator Jake Ashby, Carman Bogle, Director of Operations, presented a Senate certificate and emphasized that small businesses are the heart of the 43rd Senate District. He congratulated the Emack & Bolio’s team and welcomed them to the community.

The highlight of the ceremony was remarks from owner Orah LeHockey, who shared her journey since purchasing the Albany Emack & Bolio’s location in 2023. She described bringing joy to customers through ice cream as both her passion and purpose and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of her parents, who were also small business owners in the Capital Region.

LeHockey credited the successful launch of the new location to her “dream team” of employees, newly hired staff, construction partners, and local supporters. She thanked everyone involved in transforming what was once “a concrete slab” into a vibrant new gathering place and said she hopes the shop will create lasting memories for families and friends while continuing to bring smiles to the community for years to come.
