The Capital Region Chamber was proud to celebrate the ribbon cutting of The Lost Gnome, officially welcoming the locally owned café and tabletop gaming space to Slip 12, 21 Erie Blvd., Albany, NY 12204. Combining specialty coffee, breakfast and light fare, board games, trading card games, role-playing games, and community events, The Lost Gnome offers a welcoming environment where guests of all ages can gather, connect, and enjoy shared experiences. The new business brings a unique blend of café culture and interactive entertainment to downtown Albany, creating a destination for both longtime gaming enthusiasts and those looking for a comfortable place to relax.
Owned by husband-and-wife team Michaela and Austin, The Lost Gnome was created with a vision centered on family, community, and connection. During the ceremony, they shared how the business is deeply meaningful not only to their family of five, but also to the extended “family” they hope to build through their customers, friends, and neighbors. Their goal is to create a welcoming place where people can gather, form lasting connections, and feel a true sense of belonging.
Emceed by Shawn Daley, Senior Director, Membership Development of the Capital Region Chamber, the event highlighted the inviting atmosphere and standout offerings of the space. Shawn shared his personal enthusiasm, praising the quality of the coffee, breakfast, and overall experience, calling it “a great spot” that already draws repeat visits.
Remarks on behalf of Senator Pat Fahy and County Executive Daniel McCoy offered congratulations and support for the new business, recognizing its contribution to the local economy and downtown community.
Georgette Steffens, Executive Director of the Downtown Albany Business Improvement District, spoke about the importance of businesses like The Lost Gnome as downtown Albany continues to grow. She described it as a unique and inclusive “third space” where residents can gather, play, and connect, highlighting its appeal for families and hobbyists alike—from casual gamers to those exploring games like Pokémon and Dungeons & Dragons.
The Lost Gnome is more than a café or gaming venue—it’s a community hub where creativity, friendship, and connection come together. Its ribbon cutting marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter, adding to the continued energy and vibrancy of downtown Albany.
