Art Night Schenectady Returns This Friday, June 19 with Special Tribute to miSci’s Chris Hunter

Downtown Schenectady will come alive with art, music, creativity, and community during Art Night Schenectady this Friday, June 19, from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. The free monthly event features galleries, artist showcases, live performances, and special exhibitions throughout downtown.

A highlight of this month’s Art Night will be the unveiling of “Art in the Collection,” a special display at Armory Studios NY honoring the life and legacy of Chris Hunter, the former President of miSci and General Electric Archivist, who passed away in May.

Presented by Armory Studios NY, miSci, and Art Night Schenectady, the exhibit features a curated selection of objects from miSci’s extensive collection that showcase the artistic beauty found within Schenectady’s scientific, industrial, and cultural history. The display reflects Hunter’s unique appreciation for the artistry, craftsmanship, and stories behind the thousands of artifacts he cared for throughout his career.

The official unveiling will take place at 5:30 p.m. in the first-floor lobby of Armory Studios NY, adjacent to the Titanic Immersive Experience entrance. The exhibition will remain on public view through August 21.

In addition to the tribute exhibition, visitors can enjoy a wide variety of Art Night programming, including:

• Artists showcasing their work at the Jay Street Art Market beginning at 5 p.m.
• Gallery 5’s new exhibit featuring 40 regional artists
• An artist talk with newcomer Peter Maslow at 6:30 p.m.
• Live music throughout downtown venues
• A special performance by the Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company at Armory Studios NY at 7:30 p.m., celebrating the company’s 35th anniversary

More than a dozen venues will participate throughout downtown Schenectady.

Art Night Schenectady takes place on the third Friday of each month and is free and open to the public.
