Whiteman Osterman & Hanna LLP Welcomes Two New Associates

Whiteman Osterman & Hanna LLP, the Capital Region’s largest law firm, is pleased to announce that Cassandra Basile has joined the Firm as an Associate in the Environmental practice group.

Prior to joining the Firm, Ms. Basile served as an Attorney Advisor for the Office of Regional Counsel’s Air Branch of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency – Region 2, where she advised on Clean Air Act enforcement matters, collaborated with the Department of Justice on litigation strategy, and reviewed case records for FOIA compliance. She also previously served as Assistant Law Clerk to the Honorable Martin Shulman at the New York State Supreme Court, Appellate Division – First Department, drafting memoranda and decisions on a broad range of civil and criminal appeals.

Ms. Basile earned her Juris Doctor from Fordham University School of Law, where she was awarded an Archibald R. Murray Public Service Award and was a member of the Brendan Moore Trial Advocacy Team. Her legal scholarship includes a published article titled “A Shifting Focus: How Algal Turf Scrubbers (ATS) in Natural Waterways Can Prevent Toxic Blooms and Save the Algae Energy Industry,” which appeared in the Fordham Environmental Law Review in Spring 2023. She also holds a Master of Arts from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Arts magna cum laude from Binghamton University, where she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. Ms. Basile is admitted to practice in the state of New York.

Originally from Schenectady, New York, Cassandra recently returned to the Capital Region after living in New York City for the past ten years. Beyond her professional role, she enjoys spending time in the Stockade neighborhood, learning new languages, listening to podcasts and audiobooks, practicing yoga, and crocheting. Whiteman Osterman & Hanna LLP, the Capital Region’s largest law firm, is pleased to announce that Neha Goel has joined the Firm as an associate in the Trusts and Estates practice group.

Ms. Goel brings a unique and highly relevant background in cryptocurrency taxation, global financial compliance, and Automatic Exchange of Information (AEOI) reporting, positioning her as a strategic asset to the Firm and its clients. She most recently served as Assistant Counsel at the New York State Division of Tax Appeals Tribunal, where she was responsible for drafting decisions, regulatory review, and providing legal insight on tax disputes. Her experience also includes time at Deloitte Tax in New York City, where she worked on global information reporting projects, cryptocurrency regulation analysis, and compliance review across more than 20 jurisdictions.

Ms. Goel earned her Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from Albany Law School, where she received multiple honors including the John Dugan Prize for excellence in Tax Law, the Herbert E. Cohen Prize for Corporate Law, and the Stone Family Prize Fund in Business and Entrepreneurship. She published her work, Uncertainty in Virtual Currency Taxation, in the Albany Law Review in 2023. She also holds a B.S. in Law and Society from Russell Sage College, summa cum laude, and a B.S. in Forensic Science from Amity University in India.

She is admitted to practice in New York and the U.S. Tax Court and is passionate about mentoring law students exploring careers in tax and business law. In her free time, Ms. Goel enjoys reading, running, hiking, and spending time with her family.
