February 8, 2024Collaborative School of the Arts Announces Daily Gazette Sponsorship
The Collaborative School of the Arts is happy to announce the Daily Gazette’s new three-year sponsorship of the annual High School Musical Theatre Awards. This program welcomes dozens of schools and impacts over 3500 students and families across upstate New York in a lively showcase of regional talent.
The High School Musical Theatre Awards is a national program, modeled after the Tony Awards®, to recognize outstanding local musical theatre productions and students. Winners are announced for each category interspersed with lively production numbers from the shows nominated for Best Musical and finalists for Best Actor and Best Actress. Additionally, students selected from each participating school perform in the opening and closing numbers for an inclusive and celebratory event, featuring a full orchestra, music direction and choreography by theatre professionals.
“We’re delighted to be able to support the local arts in this way,” said Miles Reed, Daily Gazette Family of Newspapers editor. “Capital Region schools are rich with talented young actors and similarly talented teachers and advisors. High school musical season is a veritable feast for the senses. We’re just thrilled to be part of this showcase of talent.”
The Best Actor and Best Actress winners advance to represent the Capital Region in The Jimmy Awards®/The National High School Musical Theatre Awards® (NHSMTA®). This program impacts more than 140,000 students who participate in high school musical theatre competitions sponsored by presenters of Touring Broadway productions throughout the United States.
Nominations are announced live on social media and culminate in the ceremony on the MainStage at Proctors. This year’s HSMTA will be 7 p.m. Saturday, May 4. Tickets will go on sale closer to the event.
