Two SPHP Hospitals Recognized as a “Best Hospital” by U.S. News & World Report

Two of St. Peter’s Health Partners’ (SPHP) hospitals – St. Peter’s Hospital and Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital – have been recognized as a Best Hospital for 2023-24 by U.S. News & World Report.

For the 2023-24 rankings and ratings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide on key indicators of patient care. Only 12 percent of evaluated hospitals earned a best hospital ranking. For SPHP, those rankings revealed:

  • St. Peter’s Hospital was ranked 1st in the Capital Region and 13th among more than 200 hospitals in New York state. It was also recognized as high performing in two adult specialties (gastroenterology/GI surgery and urology); and 15 procedures, including: aortic valve surgery; back surgery (new in 2023); colon cancer surgery; chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD); diabetes; heart attack; heart bypass surgery; heart failure; hip replacement; kidney failure; knee replacement; lung cancer surgery; pneumonia; prostate cancer surgery (new in 2023); and stroke.
  • Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital was nationally ranked at 33 on U.S. World’s “Best Rehab Hospitals” list. The ranking is based on a number of factors, including quality outcomes, the number of patients treated, and the opinion of specialists from across the country. Sunnyview is the only hospital in upstate New York dedicated to physical rehabilitation. It helps patients recover from stroke and heart attacks, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and major surgeries and illnesses.

This marks the tenth year in a row that St. Peter’s Hospital has been named among the best hospitals in New York state. This is the second year in a row Sunnyview has made the top 35 and the third consecutive year it’s been in the top 50.

“We are so proud of our clinical and support staff for helping St. Peter’s attain such high recognition for the tremendous work they do every day,” said Kim Baker, senior vice president hospital operations, St. Peter’s Health Partners. “Especially during these very challenging times in health care, our teams continue to raise the bar and hold true to our mission and values, while providing highly skilled care to patients in our community. To receive this honor 10 years in a row is truly remarkable.”

“Sunnyview is a place like no other in our region. We consistently meet or exceed national benchmarks and provide the highest levels of therapy available,” said Chris Jordan, senior vice president hospital operations for Sunnyview. “Close to 100 percent of our patients say they would recommend Sunnyview to family and friends and that’s because of the tireless and proficient work our teams do to help thousands of patients get back to doing what they love each year. I could not be more proud of our team for achieving this accolade again.”

St. Joseph’s Health in Syracuse, also a member of Trinity Health, was named a Best Hospital for the ninth consecutive year and is ranked No. 1 in the Syracuse Metro area.

The annual Best Hospitals rankings and ratings, now in their 34th year, are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive quality care for challenging health conditions or elective procedures.
