Albany Pro Música (APM) Announces the 2023-24 Season

Albany Pro Musica’s 2023-24 season marks Maestro Flores-Caraballo’s 10th anniversary with APM, and we have a very special season year ahead. Subscriptions are on sale now at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, and we hope you’ll join us for each of these performances:

LEGACY: October 22, 2023
Albany Pro Musica will open its 43rd season with an eclectic, inspiring, and evocative concert celebrating our composer-in-residence program, which has strengthened the legacy of new compositions that advance the choral arts. This performance will include works by APM’s resident composers, including Ola Gjeilo and Bradley Ellingboe, and highlight the remarkable legacy of APM’s own Steve Murray.

THE MANY MOODS OF CHRISTMAS: December 17, 2023
Albany Pro Musica’s beloved holiday concert brings the light of the Christmas season to the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall. From the hushed opening notes of Lauridsen’s “O Magnum Mysterium,” to Bach’s beautiful Cantata BVW 142, to the joyful mix of traditional carols in Bennett and Shaw’s “The Many Moods of Christmas” suite, this concert inspires and delights audiences each year.

SEASCAPES: March 3, 2024
Composers have, for centuries, drawn inspiration from the immense beauty, power, and vastness of the seas. The acclaimed Alturas Duo joins Albany Pro Musica for Oceana, or Caderas de las Islas, a work for chorus, guitar, and viola by contemporary composer and guitarist Javier Farías. This chamber work sets the poetry of Pablo Neruda to music and evokes the wonders of the ocean. The first half will include diverse works by Hoffman, Barnum, Choi, Orlovich, and others which pay musical homage to the seas.

BACH’S B MINOR MASS: April 28, 2024
Albany Pro Musica will be joined by renowned guest soloists and the period instrumentalists from the Handel and Haydn Society for J.S. Bach’s Mass in B minor. This piece is considered one of the greatest masterworks in the choral canon, and was described by one scholar as “a summary of [Bach’s] writing for voice […] Bach’s mighty setting preserved the musical and artistic creed of its creator for posterity.”

Albany Pro Música is the Capital Region’s premiere choral ensemble and is chorus-in-residence at the historic Troy Savings Bank Music Hall. Each year, APM presents four series concerts, preview events for donors, numerous educational programs for high school students, and an elegant spring gala that is known as one of the signature social events of the season. Corporate sponsorship of Albany Pro Música represents a terrific way for regional businesses and organizations to connect with APM’s mostly older, affluent audience of individuals who are passionate about the arts in the Capital Region.
