CHA Consulting, Inc. Will Design New Sunnyside Road Bridge

CHA Consulting, Inc. (CHA), an innovative engineering design, consulting and construction management firm, has been tapped by the Village of Scotia to design a new bridge for Sunnyside Road. After four years of working with NYSDOT to secure state and federal funding for a project to replace the Sunnyside Road bridge over CSXT/Amtrak, the village selected CHA this summer to provide engineering design services to replace the bridge. CHA will work collaboratively with the Village of Scotia, its residents, and the railroads running beneath to replace the bridge and reopen this essential village road.

CHA and the village will follow all state and federal policies, procedures, and requirements as the project progresses through preliminary and final design and ultimately construction. Close coordination will be required with both railroad companies, as well as with applicable utility owners and other state agencies. Additionally, property rights will need to be obtained for some of the land around the bridge. While this bridge replacement project was initiated as a result of the condition of the bridge, this locally administered federal aid bridge project is unrelated to the October 25 red flag closure by the New York State Department of Transportation based on recent inspections.

CHA is working closely with the Village of Scotia to expedite the design and replacement of the Sunnyside Road Bridge, with the understanding that taking the time required to develop a proper and safe design is the ultimate goal. The immediate focus of the village and CHA is on re-establishing the normal travel route for impacted commuters as safely and quickly as possible. Since CHA is at the very beginning of this project, a timeframe for reopening the bridge has yet to be established.
