Harris Beach Financial Institutions Attorney Named Albany County Bar President

Partner Mathew P. Barry, co-leader of the Harris Beach Financial Institutions and Capital Markets Industry Team, has been elected as president of the Albany County Bar Association (ACBA) for 2022. As president, Matt leads the ACBA Board of Directors, which sets the vision and policies for the Association. He has been a member of the ACBA Board since 2011.

The ACBA, with about 1,200 members, serves as a private professional trade association for attorneys, judges, law students, paralegals, law clerks and other legal professionals who live or work in Albany County.

“The Albany County Bar Association was founded in 1900, making it one of the state’s oldest Bar Associations. It is an honor to be elected to this position by my peers and to have the opportunity shape the future of the Association,” Matt said.

“In the year ahead we will look for new ways to promote public service, foster comradery amongst the bench and bar and improve the practice of law in the Capital District, while continuing efforts to broaden and diversify our membership. Specifically, we will attempt to increase the reach of the Association to include more transactional attorneys through additional programs, services and content aimed at their practice areas.”

Matt represents financial institutions and businesses in areas such as commercial lending, real estate development, purchasing and leasing. He was named a Super Lawyer in banking law in 2021. Matt is a 2003 graduate of Albany Law School where he served two years on the school’s law review. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Union College in 2000 and served as president of his class. Matt lives in Menands, New York, with his wife Kate and two daughters, Cameron and Eliza.
