February 18, 2021Three New Members Join Albany Law School Board of Trustees
Albany Law School is pleased to welcome Denise Gonick ’91, Amy Melican ’96, and Sean Murphy ’94 as new members to its Board of Trustees. All three were appointed to three-year terms by the Board of Trustees.
Denice Gonick ’91 concluded a 24-year career with MVP Healthcare in 2019 including seven years as CEO. She began as a staff attorney and continuously expanded leadership responsibility with dedication to leading change, creating growth opportunities for people, improving the health of communities and enabling outstanding corporate performance.
Prior to joining the Board of Trustees, Gonick served Albany Law School as a member of the Dean’s Leadership Council. While at Albany Law School, she participated in moot court and with the litigation clinic. She received her undergraduate degree from Hofstra University.
Amy Melican ’96 is Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, at Tapestry, Inc., a New York-based house of modern luxury lifestyle brands, which is the parent company of the Coach, Kate Spade New York and Stuart Weitzman. Melican oversees litigation in North America for Tapestry which employs approximately 19,000 people globally. Her responsibilities also include oversight of employment counseling, contract negotiation, intellectual property and factory social compliance.
While at Albany Law School, Melican was a coach for the National Appellate Advocacy Competition of Moot Court. She received her undergraduate degree from Cornell University and is married to John W. Melican ‘96.
Sean Murphy ’94 is a partner in the New York office of Milbank and a member of the firm’s Litigation & Arbitration Group. Prior to joining Milbank in 2004, Murphy was a partner in the New York office of Clifford Chance LLP, where he was a member of that firm’s Securities Litigation practice group.
While at Albany Law School, Murphy was the Associate Editor of the Albany Law Review, Vol. 57 and a member of the Albany Law Review, Vol. 56. He received his undergraduate degree from St. Lawrence University. His grandfather is Daniel F. Fitzgerald ‘15 and his uncle is Daniel F. Fitzgerald, Jr. ‘51.
The new members will join a 33-member board that has helped successfully guide Albany Law School through the challenges of the past year. They will be a crucial part of the law school’s continued growth as a professional and graduate school.
“People and community are what make Albany Law special,” said President and Dean Alicia Ouellette ’94. “Denise, Amy, and Sean are already valuable members of our community and are going to be outstanding additions to the Board. Each brings a unique insight and experience that will help guide the law school for years to come.”
“I am certain that the leadership, experience, and knowledge that our newest members bring to the Board will be incredibly valuable,” Chair of the Board of Trustees Debra Treyz ’77 said. “Our new trustees strengthen our already dedicated and engaged board and I am very excited about our school’s future.”
