Boys & Girls Clubs Launch Limited Apparel Line To Fight Food Insecurity in Capital Region

On Monday, August 3rd, 2020, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Capital Area (BGCCA) launched their limited apparel line to fight food insecurity in the Capital Region. For a donation of $25, you will provide four meals and receive a “This Shirt Feeds Kids” t-shirt. For a donation of $40, you will provide six meals and receive a “This Sweatshirt Feeds Kids” hoodie. 100% of all proceeds support BGCCA’s meal delivery service.

“When the pandemic hit in March, we knew that food insecurity was going to be a major issue for youth and families as many programs closed.” Said Justin Reuter, CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of the Capital Area. “That was not a reality that we wanted to accept.”

Since the merger of the Albany and Troy Boys & Girls Clubs in February 2019, BGCCA have provided over 425,000 meals to youth and their families. After assessing community needs with local School Districts and Housing Authorities, BGCCA ramped up meal production to accommodate the growing demand within our community. Starting with 5,000 meals a week at 11 locations, the meal program now provides over 13,000 meals weekly at 24 sites in Albany, Troy, and Rensselaer.

In an effort to spread awareness about the BGCCA food program, they developed a limited apparel line, currently offering both shirts and sweatshirts with a simple message, “This Shirt Feeds Kids” ($25) or “This Sweatshirt Feeds Kids” ($40). Each item provides four and six meals, respectively. All proceeds will be reinvested into feeding Capital Region youth and families. “It’s incredible the potential a shirt could make in a child’s life.” Said Reuter.
