Message and Update from Home Made Theater

While we have not been able to bring you live theatre, we have been working on a number of “Virtual Events” to keep you engaged and inspired. Our “Virtual Play of the Week” series will start Monday, May 4, with The Remote Affection Model a Virtual Play written by Skidmore student, Julian Tushabe. Some other projects in the works include a “teaser” of Moana Jr. being put together by our Youth Musical Theater Conservatory as well as a 1940’s style Radio Murder Mystery! Keep your eye out for all of those exciting projects on our website and Facebook page.

Although much is dependent on what happens over the coming weeks and summer, we continue to optimistically plan for next season. Your safety is of utmost importance to us, so rest assured that we will be following all guidelines established for venues like ours. One change we have made is to move The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, originally scheduled for this spring, to December, in place of A Flea in Her Ear. In this way, we can recognize and honor our commitment to the cast and production crew and bring you this very popular production.

The stay at home orders have, of course, impacted our ability to generate income. Fortunately, I’m happy to report that, thanks to the efforts of Erin Harrington, our Business Manager, and the financial committee, we were able to secure funds from the Paycheck Protection Program. These funds will help tremendously as we wrap up our 2019/2020 season, however much remains uncertain for next season. We want to be there for you when life gets back to “normal”, whatever that may look like.

I was able to reach out to many of you via phone calls and was happy to hear that everyone I spoke to is healthy and safe. I hope you are too, and will remain so. We are extremely grateful for the outpouring of love and support we have felt already from our extended “family.” We were especially touched by those of you who have made donations and have offered to convert your ticket sales to donations. We are grateful for, and continue to welcome, your generosity and support. We need each other now, more than ever!
