April 15, 2020Albany Public Library Adds Hoopla Digital for Patrons to Stream & Download Movies, TV Shows, Music, Books, Comic Books & Audiobooks with No Waiting
All 29 libraries in the Upper Hudson Library System (UHLS) are now offering Hoopla digital collection to patrons, including the Albany Public Library.
APL library card holders can download and stream movies, television shows, music, comics, books, and audiobooks from the Hoopla platform. These items can be enjoyed via computer, tablet, or phone, and even on television.
All titles on Hoopla are considered simultaneous use, so that means there is no wait for patrons to check out material. Titles can be streamed immediately, or downloaded to phones or tablets for offline enjoyment later. Hoopla is available for computers, smartphones, tablets, Alexa devices, Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, and Android TV.
Albany Public Library provides cardholders with five instant borrows each month. These digital borrows reset every month and patrons can borrow more than one title at a time. Books are available for 21 days, videos are available for 72 hours, and music titles are available for 7 days after they are borrowed.
APL cardholders of all ages can access Hoopla. The platform has a “kids mode” that parents can enable for kid-friendly searching.
To get started, patrons need to register for a free Hoopla account. They will also need to indicate their home library and input their library card number to set up the account.
Visit the library’s blog for regular updates about APL’s virtual materials, services, and programs. The library’s social media channels (@AlbanyNYLibrary) on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube also post virtual content and updates.
