Richard Loewenstein, P.E. Promoted to Chief Executive Officer

The Chazen Companies, an employee-owned multidisciplinary consulting firm, announced the promotion of Richard “Rick” Loewenstein, P.E. to Chief Executive Officer, effective February 1, 2020. He succeeds Mark Kastner, P.E., President, as the leader of the firm.

Loewenstein had served as Chazen’s Chief Operating Officer since September 2018 following an accomplished career as Senior Vice President and Director of Engineering Services with CHA Consulting in Albany.

Since starting with Chazen, Loewenstein has played a vital role in the company’s day-to-day operations and led the development of a new 5-year strategic plan. During that time, he became very familiar with Chazen’s people, operations, challenges and opportunities. In his new role, Loewenstein will be responsible for continuing to grow the firm, delivering outstanding service to the firm’s clients, and motivating, leading and developing the firm’s employees.

“I am truly honored and excited to be named the CEO of Chazen and be able to work alongside such a talented team” said Loewenstein. “I look forward to working with the team in achieving the themes of Chazen’s strategic plan: People, Stability and Growth in 2020 and beyond. Chazen has a shining future as we work together to make it an even better place to work, provide a quality product, and continue our focus on client satisfaction.”

Loewenstein has over 30 years of experience in the consulting industry in a variety of leadership roles. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Forest Engineering from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry and a Bachelor and Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Syracuse University.

“Rick’s deep and broad experience in all aspects of our business make him the ideal person to lead Chazen into the future,” said Kastner, who will retire from the firm later this year and remain on its board of directors. “I have complete confidence in Rick’s ability to build upon the great company we are and lead Chazen to the next level and beyond.”
