June 27, 2019Metroplex and Proctors Team Up to Improve Key Hall
The Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority and Proctors are teaming up to improve Key Hall’s facade at 436 State in downtown Schenectady. The work will be completed this summer before Hamilton debuts at Proctors in August.
“Key Hall is an important venue downtown and we are pleased to assist Proctors in restoring the facade and making the building stand out, especially at night,” said Ray Gillen, Metroplex Chair.
“As a gathering place, Key Hall is unparalleled in the city,” said Proctors CEO Philip Morris. “This project, thanks to Metroplex, will make the outside as beautiful as the inside.”
Metroplex has awarded a contract to PCC Contracting of Schenectady to clean and repair the limestone facade. In addition, M/E Engineering and Schenectady Hardware & Electric will design and install LED lighting to highlight the prominent architectural details of the façade at night, notably the columns and gable. In total, Metroplex will invest $60,000 to repair and light–up Key Hall.
The building was constructed in 1920 for Citizens Trust Bank. The architect was Mowbray and Uffinger from New York City. The firm designed over 400 banks around the country prior to World War II.
Key Bank sold the building to Proctors in 2010. Key Hall hosts meetings, weddings, special occasions and other events and is part of the Proctors entertainment complex in downtown Schenectady.
Key Hall features a ballroom with Italian marble and a 40-foot high ceiling. The facility can host up to 200 guests for a sit-down dinner or 300 guests for a reception.
Metroplex helps to coordinate Schenectady County’s unified economic development team. Proctors is the leading entertainment and arts center in the Capital Region.
