March 13, 2019Berkshire Bank Employee Honored with the Patriot Award
Berkshire Bank announced that Laila Mhirig, Assistant Vice President and Branch Officer, has received the Patriot Award from the Employer Support of the Guard and National Reserve (ESGR), a U.S. Department of Defense program.
The Patriot Award reflects the efforts made to support citizen warriors through a wide-range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families and granting leaves of absence if needed.
Mhirig was nominated by Berkshire Bank employee Jamie McAvey, an Assistant Manager now in the midst of her second year of active duty in the Massachusetts Air Force National Guard. Mhirig has been in constant contact with McAvey during her deployment and has been an amazing supporter.
“Here at Berkshire Bank, people genuinely care about each other personally and work together as a team,” Mihrig stated about winning the award.
Mhirig is currently Branch Officer of Berkshire Bank’s Holden branch in central Massachusetts. Formerly an employee of Commerce Bank, Mhirig has been in the banking industry for 19 years, focusing her attention on customer service, business relationship management and commercial lending. In her spare time, Mhirig volunteers for several non-profit organizations, ranging from Women Initiative, Dress for Success, United Way. She is also an active member of the Wachusett Area Chamber of Commerce.
