Schenectady Community Ministries is holding its 2nd Annual Empty Bowls event to benefit the emergency food pantry.  Empty Bowls is on Sunday, March 3, 2019, 2-5 pm, at the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel, 100 Nott Terrace.    The event features soups, stews and chowders from both professional and home chefs who will bring their favorite soup recipes, and participants will vote for their favorite top three.  The event also includes pick-a-prize raffles, a 50-50 raffle, and Perrica’s Bread, desserts and beverages.  New this year, Empty Bowls will feature two chefs (ages 4 and 5) who will share their favorite tomato soups(see photos below)

Families are encouraged to participate in this fun-filled afternoon of fellowship and soup tasting.  It is a wonderful way to stay warm, taste a wide variety of soups and support the SiCM food pantry.  All event participants will take home a beautiful pottery bowl as a souvenir to remember all the “empty bowls” in the world.

The SiCM pantry is the largest pantry in the Schenectady area, providing over 60% of the temporary and emergency food given out to people in need in our community.  The food pantry also offers “wrap around” support services, such as assistance with SNAP (Food Stamp) benefits, nutrition education, and information on health insurance and employment.  The effects of the economy have led to dramatic increases in the number of households needing food assistance
