“Fill the Van – Food Drive on Valentine’s Day” at Niskayuna Co-op

Schenectady Community Ministries is partnering with the Niskayuna Co-Op Grocery store on Valentine’s Day – Thursday, February 14, 2019 to “Fill the Van Food Drive – Give from the Heart!” to benefit the SiCM Emergency Food Pantry.

The SiCM Food Van will be parked in the Niskayuna Parking Lot on Thursday, Feb. 14th from 11 – 6 p.m. We invite the public to drop by and help SiCM Fill the Van with canned and boxed food items so SiCM can restock our donations and shelves at the SiCM Food Pantry on 839 Albany Street.

Volunteers and staff will be available to accept food donations and pass out valentine’s hearts as a thank you.  We encourage individuals and groups to purchase and/or collect canned goods and bring them to the Niskayuna Co-op Community Market, 2227 Nott Street, Niskayuna, NY  12309.

The SiCM pantry is the largest pantry in the Schenectady area, providing over 60% of the temporary and emergency food given out to people in need in our community.  The food pantry also offers “wrap around” support services, such as assistance with SNAP (Food Stamp) benefits, nutrition education, and information on health insurance and employment.  The effects of the economy have led to dramatic increases in the number of households needing food assistance

The SiCM Food Program is supported by many, including the NYS Hunger Prevention and Nutrition Assistance Program; Reformed Church World Service; Stewart’s; WGY Christmas Wish, the GE Foundation; Emergency Food and Shelter; Concerned for the Hungry; CROP Walk and many congregations, individuals, corporations, and civic groups.

The Schenectady Community Ministry (SiCM) is an ecumenical partnership of 52 congregations founded in 1967.  SiCM undertakes programs of joint service and witness with and on behalf of congregations in the areas of both social service and social justice.
