Chamber’s Entrepreneur Boot Camp Aims to Turn Business Vision into Reality

An entrepreneur can be defined as “a person who organizes and operates a business or businesses, taking on greater than normal financial risks in order to do so.” It is this risk of business failure that the Entrepreneur Boot Camp of the Capital Region Chamber seeks to mitigate.

To date, the Entrepreneur program has had more than 500 graduates, with many now thriving here in the Capital Region. There are more than 60 Chamber Member instructors, with prior year graduates of the Boot Camp also providing guidance.

The 12-week program begins February 20 and is held two nights per week at the Chamber’s Albany office. Each session features business experts addressing topics critical to the growth of successful enterprises including accounting, legal, market research, real estate, taxes, insurance, payroll, cash flow, marketing, social media and more.

The culmination of the program includes all participants presenting their business plan to a panel of judges. The winners of the business plan competition receive a $2,000 cash grant from Sunmark Federal Credit Union, a one-year Chamber membership, $1,000 from Whiteman Osterman & Hanna, office equipment from Repeat Business Systems, an education package from Schenectady County Community College and two computer courses from MicroKnowledge.

Entrepreneur Boot Camp is funded in part by a grant from Empire State Development Corporation, whose primary mission is to assist women and minority group members with starting and expanding their businesses through an intensive program of classroom training, technical assistance and ongoing support. Tuition is $550, and ShopRite is offering a 50% discount off tuition to military veterans.
