Capital District YMCA Hires Rebecca Atwell as Executive Director of the Troy Branch

The Capital District YMCA is pleased to announce the hire of Rebecca Atwell to the position of Executive Director for the Troy branch of the association.

Rebecca will lead our efforts to expand the mission of the Y in Troy. She will be chiefly responsible for successfully managing the day-to-day operations of the Troy branch, including forming strategic partnerships with key business, civic, and social leaders; and growing the number of children, adults and families served by the Y.

Rebecca brings to the Y a life-long passion for the YMCA and her commitment to strengthening our Troy community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

Rebecca has more than thirteen years of planning, developing and evaluating programs designed to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills they need to live healthy lives. She is a resident of Rensselaer County and has a firm grasp on urban needs, challenges, and opportunities.

Most recently, Rebecca served as a Health Promotion Specialist for CDPHP, where she collaborated with senior leadership, and management at various organizations throughout the Capital District, to develop and initiate innovative strategies to implement workplace health initiatives.

Prior to her time at CDPHP, Rebecca spent 7 years as the Recreation Therapy Manager for Ellis Medicine’s hospital-based nursing home. In addition to her leadership role at Ellis, she participated on the Leadership Development and Employee Wellness Committees.

In April 2015, Rebecca joined Schenectady’s Branch Advisory Council. Coupled with 18 years as a camper and staffer at YMCA Camp Chingachgook, Rebecca lives and breathes the YMCA mission. While serving in Schenectady, she acted as Annual Campaign Chair, Council Vice Chair and Branch Golf Classic Chair.

Rebecca is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS), holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation Management from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania and a Master’s Degree in Health Services Administration from the Sage Colleges of Albany.

In addition to her passion for the Y, Rebecca enjoys adventures in the Adirondacks and spending time with family and friends.

Rebecca assumes her Executive Director duties October 1st. Please join me in welcoming Rebecca to Troy!
