September 4, 2018Beekman 1802 and Brewery Ommegang Collaborate to Brew Limited Edition Goat Milk Stout Beer
Upstate New York neighbors Beekman 1802 and Brewery Ommegang announced the launch of the country’s only Goat Milk Stout beer with a private tasting on Wednesday, September 5th, 2018 at 2 p.m. at URBAN CO-WORKS in Schenectady, NY.
The two brands have collaborated on a variety of projects this year, with the launch of the Goat Milk Stout being the culmination. The companies enjoy a shared sense of a dedication to their craft and to
the artisanal farmstead. They’re excited to share those values with neighbors as they introduce this new product and bring increased attention to the area from an out-of-state audience.
The beer’s official public launch will be via a special pop-up beer garden during the ninth annual Beekman 1802 Harvest Festival on September 15th and 16th, which fills the streets of Sharon Springs, NY.
It will also be sold at the Market 32 locations that have installed Beekman 1802 displays in eleven of their stores (and one Price Chopper) since last year.
“We are very much enjoying working with Beekman 1802,” said Brewery Ommegang President Doug Campbell. “It’s always a rewarding experience to sit down with a neighbor with whom one clearly has a strong shared sense of purpose and place. We’re very excited to launch this new beer.”
According to Beekman 1802, milk stouts became popular in the late 19th century when brewers tried to create “healthier” beers by using the lactose sugars from milk in the fermenting process. Today, there are only a handful of American craft breweries still making beer in this method. Goat Milk Stout will be available in 12 oz-four packs and on draft for a limited time this fall in the following states: CT, GA, MD, NC, NJ, NY, OH, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, plus Washington D.C. and the U.S.V.I. Ommegang’s beer finder will show retailers that have it in stock by zip code once the beer begins selling http://ommegang.com/blog/beer-finder/.
Since starting Beekman 1802 from their historic farmstead in 2008, founders Brent Ridge and Josh Kilmer-Purcell have worked with over 300 regional artisans and craftspeople to take products to a
broader audience via their brick and mortar Mercantile in Sharon Springs, their ecommerce platform and stores such as Anthropologie, Bloomingdales, Williams-Sonoma and Target.
“Regional collaborations between Upstate NY’s most prominent brands allows us to bring more attention to this area,” said Ridge. “By sharing our collective audiences, we give the consumer more
reasons to make upstate a destination to visit. Companies working closely together in a shared environment slog helps create these types of impactful collaborations.”
In 2016, Beekman enrolled in the Start-Up NY program and moved its headquarters to the URBAN COWORKS space in Schenectady. Ridge says that the spirit of the communal work space was reflective of
Beekman 1802’s reliance on “being neighborly” to grow their business. “When you work in a space with all different kinds of businesses, you automatically approach your own business in a more open-minded way.” To date, twelve new jobs have been created and filled at Beekman as a result of their Start-Up NY status.
“When Beekman 1802 first established their administrative headquarters at Urban Co-Works they had a fairly small team. It’s exciting to see that they are taking advantage of the flexible co-working environment as their company continues to hire and add more people to their team,” said Jeff Goronkin, CEO of Urban Co-Works. “Our business incubation environment is an important resource for Beekman and others who have chosen to build their companies here. Having Beekman 1802 at Urban Co-Works has been a rewarding experience both for us and the Schenectady community at large.”
