Mario Fernando Reception and Talk

Leading Responsibly During Challenging Times: Perspectives from Business

Sometimes organizational leaders must make unpopular decisions. Responsible business leaders attempt to minimize harmful consequences for their stakeholders, but in some circumstances, doing the right thing means people in the organization will be disappointed.

On August 16 at The College of Saint Rose, Mario Fernando, professor of management in the School of Management, Operations and Marketing at the University of Wollongong in Australia, will examine the need for leaders to make unpopular yet responsible decisions. The event will begin with a 5:30 p.m. reception in the Carondelet Symposium at the Thelma P. Lally School of Education. The talk will start at 6 p.m. in the symposium. The event is free and open to the public. Those interested in attending can register here.

“I have had the privilege to partner with Dr. Fernando on research focused on responsible leadership, and the role of leaders in moving organizations forward.  He is a widely respected global scholar in this incredibly important field, and I am so pleased to have him come to Saint Rose to share his considerable expertise on leadership with the College and Capital Region communities,” said President Carolyn J. Stefanco.

Fernando has developed international standing as an expert in responsible leadership by consistently producing high-impact research. His work is centered on exploring how responsible executive action leads to positive individual, organizational, and societal outcomes. Currently, he is conducting research on responsible leadership, business ethics, and human resource management topics. He has published three books and numerous academic journal articles, has secured external research and teaching grants, and serves on three journal editorial boards. Prior to joining academia, Fernando was a senior human resource management executive for more than 10 years.
