February 2, 2018Schenectady Projects Honored By Capital Branch of American Public Works Association
Mayor Gary McCarthy announced that the Capital Branch of the American Public Works Association (APWA) recognized two infrastructure projects in the City of Schenectady at an awards ceremony held earlier today.
The City’s new roundabout at Nott Street and Erie Boulevard in front of the Rivers Casino & Resort and Mohawk Harbor was recognized as the 2017 Project of the Year in Transportation (in the less than $5 million category). The $4 million project was funded by federal, state and local funds focused on improving air quality. The project was managed by the City of Schenectady Engineering Department.
In addition, a new railroad bridge over Nott Street at Erie Boulevard was honored as the 2017 Project of the Year in Structures (less than $5 million category). This was also a $4 million that was funded and implemented by Canadian Pacific Railroad.
City Engineer Chris Wallin accepted the award for Schenectady’s roundabout project. Both awards are now eligible for statewide awards.
“This is great recognition of Schenectady’s infrastructure projects and we thank the APWA Capital Branch for these awards,” Mayor Gary McCarthy said. “My thanks to the City team, especially City Engineer Chris Wallin, for getting these projects done on time and on budget. Both the roundabout and new Nott Street Bridge are great additions to Schenectady.”
