Albany, NY – Our 100th home is located in Albany’s Sheridan Hollow neighborhood as part of phase 1 of the Sheridan Hollow Redevelopment project, and is the culmination of over 25 years of building in Albany and Rensselaer counties. On May 12th at 11am at 194 Sheridan Avenue in Albany, we invite the press to join us in celebrating this important milestone as we hand over the keys to our 100th home to the Wright family. Following the 11am dedication and press event, we invite the public to take a tour of our 100th home. We will also open the doors of 186 Sheridan, a home built in partnership with the Touhey Homeownership Foundation.
The completion of Habitat’s 100th home is a proud achievement for Executive Director, Mike Jacobson. “We are thrilled to celebrate the completion of our 100th home with our donors, volunteers and partner families. Reaching this momentous milestone means that 100 families now have a safe and affordable place to call home. It means over 250 children now have a room to call their own and have a quiet space to study and sleep. It also means that our neighborhoods are coming back to life and are showing a renewed vibrancy after years of neglect.”
First Niagara Bank is our 100th home sponsor and has been an incredible partner throughout our 25 years in the community. Kelli Arnold, Market Executive for First Niagara, said that the bank was “proud to partner with Habitat for Humanity and help this great organization with its mission to develop and transform communities by building affordable and sustainable homes in partnership with lower-income families in the Capital District. Habitat for Humanity has had a tremendous impact in our community and we are thrilled to provide both financial and man power support. ”
Showcase tours will go from 11:30am-1:00pm and 4:00pm-6:00pm. Habitat staff will be there throughout the tour to answer any questions. In case of inclement weather, we will cancel the 11:00am press event, but will still be hosting the showcase tours as scheduled. To find out if the press event has been cancelled, please go to our website at www.HabitatCD.org or visit our Facebook page. You may also call Development and Communications Manager, Sara Rising, at 518-462-2993 ext. 105.
In honor of Habitat’s 100th home, the Palace Theatre will be donating 100 tickets to Sesame Street Live on May 17th to Habitat families and supporters. Habitat will be giving the tickets away during the Home Showcase event and to guests at the 100 Homes & Building Reception at the Palace Theatre the following night on May 13th.
Speakers at this event will include Executive Director, Mike Jacobson, County Executive Dan McCoy, First Niagara Market Executive, Kelli Arnold and our 100th homeowner, Sheila Wright. We will begin promptly at 11:00am and interview opportunities will be available immediately after the speaking portion of the event.
