Capital District YMCA Hires Alicia Salamone-Powers as the Childcare Director for Albany

The Capital District YMCA is pleased to announce the hire of Alicia Salamone-Powers as Childcare Director for the Albany YMCA.

Alicia will be chiefly responsible for overseeing the development, implementation and evaluation of our school-age and camp programs in Albany, to ensure that every child in our care in Albany has an outstanding experience, every day.

“We are thrilled to have Alicia back in the YMCA family. She brings years of Y experience in addition to her experience as a childcare coach and mentor. Her high level of expertise and professionalism will be key components of her success at the Albany YMCA,” noted Lynn Siebert, the Executive Director of Childcare and Day Camp at the Capital District YMCA.

Prior to joining the Capital District YMCA, Alicia spent five years as the School-Age Educator for the Capital District Child Care Council. There, Alicia worked first hand with front line staff, directors and administrators, helping improve program quality for children through technical assistance, creating and providing staff training, teaching, and successfully advising staff through the School-Age Credential and Accreditation process.

“I’ve seen many improvements in the level of quality programming we’re able to offer children, and I’m thrilled to apply my experience to help the children of Albany,” explained Alicia.

Alicia also served as a Site Director for the Guilderland YMCA after-school program for 13 years. During her time in Guilderland, Alicia developed high-quality after-school programs which benefited the children in her care, and served as a role model for her staff, helping staff see how important after-school opportunities are for children.

Alicia received her Master’s in Education and Special Education in May 2009 from Sage Graduate School. During her time in school, Alicia taught in a fourth grade classroom in Mechanicville, NY, and in a second grade classroom in Troy, NY.
