Seeking Nominations from Schenectady County High School Students for the Ralph F. Boyd, Sr. Award

The Schenectady County Human Rights Commission MLK Coalition is accepting applications for the Ralph F. Boyd, Sr. Award which provides $1,000 to a Schenectady County High School student to use toward their post High School education.

Mr. Ralph F. Boyd, Sr. was instrumental in starting the Schenectady County Chapter of the NAACP, the Carver Community Center, the Head Start Program at SCAP, and the Baptist Retirement Center. He is active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and earned the Distinguished Service Award and two Bronze Stars in World War II. This award is presented annually to a youth who reflects the commitment to human rights that Mr. Boyd, Sr. demonstrates every day.

The student should be a senior in High School and someone who has demonstrated a commitment of time and effort to programs, projects or initiatives focusing on human/ civil rights. This student should also be admitted to a two/ four year college or a career-based program.

Student must submit a one-page statement describing their involvement with human/civil rights issues. A one-page letter of support from a faculty member and evidence of admission to college or a career-based program is also required. Entries must be postmarked no later than May 15, 2017
