Voters Approve Albany Public Library Budget

Albany city residents voted today to approve a 2.0 percent increase in the annual tax levy to support the Albany Public Library. The 2019 budget passed with a final vote of 2,385 to 846, which is an approval of 74 percent.

The approved 2019 library operating tax levy is $7,153,022. The owner of a $150,000 home in the city of Albany will pay about an extra $4.89 for the library next year. The estimated homestead rate for the 2019 library tax is $1.66 per $1,000 of assessed value.

“We are very pleased that residents voted to continue supporting Albany Public Library with their tax dollars,” said APL Executive Director Scott C. Jarzombek. “The budget approval allows us to meet patron demand for more hours, programming, eBooks, and meeting room availability while continuing service at seven neighborhood locations across the city. The Albany Public Library leaders, staff, and trustees truly appreciate the confidence and support our community has in its libraries.”

There were no library trustee seats up for election this year.
