Partner with Capital Region P-TECH
Business partners are essential to the success of the P-TECH program. Organizations are encouraged to get involved to enable Capital Region P-TECH to prepare students for the workplaces of today and tomorrow. These partnerships will help shape the type of employees your company needs and desires.
What are the benefits to your company? The partnerships between schools, community colleges and employers will help build a robust talent pipeline and foster economic growth. Business professionals will have the opportunity to mentor students, provide “real-world” experiences related to your business/industry, and work with educators to help develop projects for students. This partnership offers businesses assurance that students are prepared with the skills necessary for success in jobs within their organization and industry. Business will also have an opportunity to engage with students as an “authentic” audience during project presentations and provide work site visits and summer field experiences.
If you are interested in learning more about partnering with Capital Region P-TECH, please fill out the form here.
If you have questions regarding the program, please contact Karen Fox, Director, Education Initiatives at the

Guest Speaker
Business partners visit the classroom and provide information on their company, industry and occupation as either an individual presenter or as a part of a panel discussion to address the application of academics in a real-world context. Through these presentations, students will develop a better appreciation of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to be successful in the workplace.
-
Authentic Audience
Attend student presentations and expos, and then provide feedback on student projects and presentations. This will provide the business partner an opportunity to direct student accomplishment and assess student achievement.
-
Workplace Tours
Business partners provide opportunities for students and teachers to visit their workplace and learn about the business, meet employees, ask questions and observe work in progress.
-
Create a Workplace Challenge
Business partners work with teachers to develop a real-world problem or challenge for students to solve through the use of the academic curriculum. Business partners provide feedback to students as they work together to solve the problem or challenge.
-
Career Exploration Day
An opportunity for employers to meet with students and discuss careers within their organizations related to information technology, computer science, cybersecurity and coding.
-
Teacher Summer Experiential
For one day during the summer, teachers are partnered with an employee of a P-TECH business partner during much of the regular workday. This experience will provide the educator with a better understanding of the daily responsibility of the employee and allow the educator to better align the curriculum to meet the demands of the workplace. Available during summers only.
-
Business 101 Mentorship Series
Professional skill development mentoring sessions for 10th grade students are once a month from September through April in a small group setting at one of the P-TECH schools.

-
Job Shadowing
Students are paired with an employee of a P-TECH business partner during much of the regular workday to experience their workplace, explore a particular occupation, learn about the business, connect with a working adult and observe work in progress. Students are required to complete one job shadow experience during 11th grade.
-
Field Study
Provide an opportunity for students going into their senior year to apply relevant skills in their field of study and be productively engaged in the workplace. Students may work in teams, rotate through several departments and job functions, or work on a project of interest to the student that is of value to the business partner.
