YWCA of the Greater Capital Region, Inc. Welcomes Siena Summer Service Scholars Dana Anglin and Maria Flores

YWCA of the Greater Capital Region, Inc., is proud to announce a first time collaboration with the Siena Summer Service Scholars  Program. This program provides students with the opportunity to spend nine weeks working full time with a non-profit in the Greater Capital Region of Albany, New York. We would like to introduce our interns for Summer 2018: Dana Anglin and Maria Flores.

Dana Anglin is the housing intern at YWCA-GCR. She is from Queens, New York, but currently resides in Clifton Park. Dana is a rising junior at New York University majoring in Global Public Health with a concentration in biology. This summer she hopes to create a meaningful program for the aging population of women in YWCA.

“All of the women are extremely warm and welcoming at YWCA-GCR.  I want to build lasting relationships with everyone here and I hope that I can create something that will have a positive impact on the ladies in YWCA” says Ms. Anglin.

Maria Flores is the Development and Marketing Assistant at YWCA-GCR. She is from Chicago, Illinois and is a rising junior at DePauw University  majoring in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.  With this being her first time living outside the Midwest, Maria is excited to spend the summer exploring a new state and working alongside an organization she is passionate about.

“It is so great to be a part of a team that is energized about the work they are doing for their community. I am honored to work alongside such powerful women and I know I will learn a lot from this experience” says Ms. Flores.

Daquetta Jones, Executive Director of YWCA-GCR, says “YWCA-GCR is proud to join ACE at Siena College as a Community Partner to support and invest in Dana Anglin and Maria Flores, 2018 Summer Service Scholars.  Over the course of 9 weeks, YWCA-GCR will serve as co-educators to provide an unforgettable learning experience that will influence both scholars future success. We were excited to hear Dana and Maria’s interest in YWCA-GCR as we shared the same interest in them. They are both eager to learn, contribute to YWCA-GCR’s mission and services/programs and possess a spirit of making a difference. We appreciate their investment in YWCA-GCR as having two dedicated and ambitious scholars contribute to our work, full-time for 9 consecutive weeks will have a substantial impact on operations and those we serve. Dana is working with our Housing Team, serving over 94 women and 20 children as well as gaining skills across all scopes of services and programs YWCA-GCR provides. Maria works actively with our Development and Marketing team, helping plan events and market our services and success via social media and eblasts. She too is learning about an array of services and programs offered at YWCA-GCR. They are also working on a joint project for a Spa Day for YWCA-GCR residents. ”
